0 am to 2 pm Intro to Encaustic This class is for beginners to Encaustic. We will work with an iron, a hotplate, stylus and brushes and various substrates like wood, canvas boards and papers. Students will learn the history of Encaustic, safety practices, and proper use and care of the hotplate and stylus. Painting techniques such as smoothing, layering, texturing, mark making, stencilling and scaping will be incorporated into the class. Use of oil pastels, pan pastels, India ink, alcohol inks and other mixed media may also be applied. How to set up a home studio will be covered if requested.
Class Date and Time: Monday August 16, 2021, 10 am to 2 pm, at the Quail’s Nest Arts Centre, 5840 Airport St., Oliver BC
Class fee is $25 and covers the cost of supplies. The Oliver Community Arts Council is generously helping to fund the workshops and exhibit, to make it affordable while still ensuring artists are not out of pocket.
Instructor: Janvier Kreut of Kreutopia Arts. Jan has trained in encaustic under many instructors, starting with Thea Haubrich, a founding member of the Ripoff Artists. The versatility of painting with Encaustic wax inspired Janvier. She has won many 1st place ribbons in juried shows in Canada and the USA. Her artwork is owned by private collectors in Australia, Mexico, United States and Canada.
